Adani Green Energy Sets New Benchmark, Becomes First Indian Firm to Cross 20 GW
With an operational capacity exceeding 20 GW, Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has become the first Indian company in the renewable energy sector to do so. The announcement was made on July 1, 2026, and has been a landmark event in the history of India’s transition to renewable energy.
The company reached this milestone just 10 years after the inauguration of its first project at Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu in 2016.
In this period, AGEL has progressed in a manner that no other Indian company has matched before, with a record high capacity addition of 5,051 MW in FY26 - highest ever in a year for any non-Chinese company.
Diversified Renewable Energy Portfolio
The energy portfolio of AGEL has become diversified across 14.2 GW of solar power, 2.7 GW of wind power, and 3.3 GW of wind-solar hybrid energy projects. Combined, all of these projects produce an output of over 52 billion units of renewable energy every year, which forms almost 3% of the total electricity consumption in India. As per the estimates by the company, this much energy would be sufficient to provide electricity to around 9 million homes, which amounts to meeting the annual electricity demands of the city of New York or even close to those of Mumbai and New Delhi together.
Strengthening India's Renewable Energy Leadership
AGEL’s operational capabilities have now reached about 14% of the country’s utility scale solar capacities, and about 12% of its utility scale solar and wind energy capacities, making the company India’s biggest renewable energy firm.

This achievement comes after Adani's speech at the first-ever Adani Green Energy Dialogue, which was held on June 26 as part of London Climate Action Week at The Science Museum, London.
Roadmap to 50 GW by 2030
In the future, the plan of AGEL is to reach a capacity of 50 GW by 2030. The key for this increase is the Khavda power project, which is based in Kutch, Gujarat. This power station covers an area of 538 square kilometres and will have a capacity of 30 GW, and AGEL has already installed 9.5 GW of solar capacity there.
